Professional Development By the Numbers

Graland demonstrated its strong commitment to developing exceptional skills among our faculty and staff. Here is an overview of professional development completed in 2017-18:

By the Numbers
· 8 faculty/staff benefited from tuition funding; one master’s degree completed
· 19 faculty/staff participated in the Diversity and Equity Cohort with Dr. Regina Lewis
· 100% of faculty and administration enjoyed on-campus professional development
·  61% of faculty completed professional trainings beyond all-school offerings
·  36% of day staff (not including administrators) participated in professional development
·  72% of senior administrators attended professional trainings beyond all-school offerings
·  9 Instructional Round sessions completed with 47 participants visiting 39 classrooms
·  20 participants in the Differentiation Cohort explored differentiation, partnering with Graland parents, writing effective progress reports, Graland’s evaluation system

· Design Thinking Workshop (schedule redesign focus) with Erin Cohn of Leadership + Design (August 2017)
· Talking to Youth About Heated Current Events with Rosetta Lee (October 2017)
· Building Healthy Relationships with Students with David Wolowitz (January 2018)
· Cydney and Tom Marsico Family Foundation Program for ECLC
· Six full days of Building Blocks math curriculum training with Doug Clements’ team
· Five days of Creative Curriculum training with Christine Jarvis and her team
 
Summer Grants 2017
1.     Mathematical Mindsets inquiry tasks developed for all Lower School grades
2.     5/6 Service Council model created that is innovative and empowers student leaders
3.     Social and economic justice topics were integrated into Middle School mathematics curriculum
4.     Development of ten innovation lessons for use in the Makerspace and/or Gates Lab
5.     Interdisciplinary unit created between math, science and visual arts departments resulting in successful Middle School Math/Art/Science Fair
6.     Skills-based assessments created for Grades 7/8 math classes
7.     Two Gates coaches developed their skills in the use of Arduino software for coding
