Highlights & Annual Report 2017-2018
Dear Graland Community,
To conclude the 2017-18 school year on June 6, we celebrated the graduation of 72 members of the Class of 2018 and sent them on to the next phase of their academic journey. Each of these students is well prepared for success in high school and beyond. We must acknowledge and thank our incredible faculty and administrative teams. This group of dedicated professionals continues to produce strong results in the classroom. We can measure our success quantitatively (tests scores continue to improve across all grades) and qualitatively (high school acceptance rates, university matriculation, professional success and leadership in the community).
The financial sustainability of your school remains solid. Graland carries no debt and our endowment is approaching $40 million, providing approximately $1.3 million annually to the operating budget. This year we set a record in terms of the annual fund, raising over $1.2 million for investment in financial aid, professional development and faculty compensation. We thank each of you for your incredible generosity and continued financial support.
Our Head of School, Josh Cobb, hit the ground running in August 2017 and never looked back. Our leadership transition has been smooth ensuring no pause in our growth. We successfully met all our first-year goals of the five-year strategic plan and you can expect an acceleration of our remaining initiatives.
Interest in Graland continues to be robust. Admissions inquiries and applications have been on the rise, making Graland’s position in the market very strong. Thanks to new branding and messaging, this year in particular we attracted applicants from a wider geographic area. As always, thank you for your word-of-mouth endorsement in the community.
On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Sarah Anschutz ‘86 Hunt and Ben Walton for their service and welcome Jeff Allen, John Freyer ’92 and Ivo Jurek.
Finally, we are fortunate to have Bernie Dvorak as our next Board President. His passion for the school and its continued success is infectious and he will help push Graland to even greater heights. Your school has a committed and tireless Board of Trustees whose hard work and dedication to Graland will thrive under his leadership.
